Wild Side of the Mountain Sanctuary
Saving wildlife one animal at a time!

Our Mission

Wild Side of the Mountain Sanctuary is a not-for-profit, no-kill sanctuary, committed to providing permanent homes for captive wildcats and other captive wildlife in need of a safe haven. There is a fast growing need for sanctuaries that can house large exotic cats. Currently, there are roughly 70 accredited sanctuaries in the United States. However, only 14 of those take in large, exotic felines.

The Humane Society of the United States published that private US citizens currently own at least 10,000 large cats, many of which endure significant levels of deprivation and suffering. There is a waiting list for large cats and other exotic animals in need of safe haven at a sanctuary. If a permanent home can not be found for the astounding number of exotic animals being illegally kept as pets, illegally bred, or in need of a safe home, these magnificent animals will be put to death. The need for permanent safe homes for these large cats and other exotic animals has out grown the available room in many of the present sanctuaries.

We here at Wide Side of the Mountain Sanctuary are creating permanent enclosures built to fit the needs of each species of animal. Our mission is not only to meet just the most basic of each animals needs, such as housing, food and medical treatment. It is to also offer comfort and interactive stimulation. To the world one animal’s well being and state of mind may not mean a lot. But to one animal it can mean the world.

Thank you for being a part of our dream and vision. Your support and help is greatly appreciated. Our vision is to save lives of animals in need and offer a solution to the growing number of discarded wild animals bought as pets in America today. We will offer an interactive environment and enclosures to meet the needs of each individual species of animal at our sanctuary. We are raising funds to purchase a 44 acre property that will not only offer natural beauty for all of our animals and visitors, but will also offer our design team the opportunity to create each interactive enclosure in unique species specific designs.

We will combine the needs of each animal with an available educational viewing area for our visitors.

It is our goal to offer local schools, and all who may visit , a safe educational tour. Our board of directors includes a wonderful teacher who is setting up our educational program. A program which not only includes tours, but also an extended program which will allow our volunteers to educate at the schools and public events. Our educational program in cooperation with our design team will work to develop an interactive educational center on our sanctuary’s grounds.

We here at Wild Side of the Mountain Sanctuary believe that to offer sanctuary to the growing number of animals in need is only one of the ways needed to protect wild animals in our future. In order to effect change and offer these magnificent animals hope for a better future education is vital. Teaching the public to understanding each species and respect it enough to allow it’s species a future in the wild and not as a pet is a message we will be focused on teaching.
