Wild Side of the Mountain Sanctuary is a not-for-profit, no-kill sanctuary, committed to providing permanent homes for captive wildcats and other captive wildlife in need of a safe haven. There is a fast growing need for sanctuaries that can house large exotic cats. Currently, there are roughly 70 accredited sanctuaries in the United States. However, only 14 of those take in large, exotic felines.
The Humane Society of the United States published that private US citizens currently own at least 10,000 large cats, many of which endure significant levels of deprivation and suffering. There is a waiting list for large cats and other exotic animals in need of safe haven at a sanctuary. If a permanent home can not be found for the astounding number of exotic animals being illegally kept as pets, illegally bred, or in need of a safe home, these magnificent animals will be put to death. The need for permanent safe homes for these large cats and other exotic animals has out grown the available room in many of the present sanctuaries.
We here at Wide Side of the Mountain Sanctuary are creating permanent enclosures built to fit the needs of each species of animal. Our mission is not only to meet just the most basic of each animals needs, such as housing, food and medical treatment. It is to also offer comfort and interactive stimulation. To the world one animal’s well being and state of mind may not mean a lot. But to one animal it can mean the world.
