Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)
March 11, 2007

Things were kinda stressful around the house today.   My nephew has been fighting off some sort of sickness for the last couple weeks, the usual cough, cold, fever but today things progressed to a more serious note.  After having his fever spike a little higher than normal his body reacted and he needed to be rushed to the hospital.

After getting some fluids and some oxygen he is doing much better and was able to come home this evening.

He was diagnosed with Respitory Syncytial Virus.  I've never heard of this before but my son has been pretty sick with an ear infection for the last week and has had fever symptoms as well.  The two have been in contact a couple times over the last few weeks and keeping a 1 year old and a 10 month old from not sharing germs while in the same room is impossible.

We'll be keeping a close watch on Cash's fever and will get him checked by the doctors on Monday morning.

I always feel uneducated when I learn about things like this.  When I was growing up you had two types of sickness, cold and flu.

We fought this one too with Riles around the same time frame (March-ish). We were in the doc's office 7 times in two weeks. Each and every time we left with more and more drugs. It wasn't fun at all.
I hope everyone is better now.
My nephew has just got flu the day before yesterday.
I've never heard about RSV, but there was same thing in your younger age. Just we didn't have name for it when we were younger. Take good care of your kids and try not to be infected yourself.
