Planning a trip to Cali with Sarah in October, along with a possible trip to Chicago in the meantime. Work's fine, love life sucks, as usual.

Karen was running, not me (thank God). Clara and I met her at mile markers 9, 16, and then at the finish line. I've never been to Duluth before, which now I can't believe because it's so close to the Cities and it's really beautiful. It was Karen's third marathon and she finished at her best time yet: 4 hours 5 minutes. She's run Twin Cities twice up till now--I ran it with her last year where we finished just shy of 5 and a half hours. She'll be doing the Chicago marathon this fall. I've been sticking with my 10-mile training so far, but I've only been able to run at the gym on the treadmill since it's been so hot outside.

As most of you know I've been ever-so-slowly easing my way into doing wedding cakes. I've decided to do one this year for Karen's former student teacher, Anna, and her fiance who are marrying this August. Anna is so sweet. We're getting together Saturday to talk about the style they're looking for. I'm excited-- maybe this winter I'll try doing cakes for a couple small weddings to keep building up my portfolio.

Todd just upgraded to a fancy new camera--his kitties are his models while he practices learning its features. Giza likes to ham it up for the camera and is more photogenic than Scooter--i know from my experience photographing Olive that black cats kinda show up in pictures looking like a black lump with two eyes. Todd's actually scheduled to do a photography show in St. Paul (at least i think it's in St. Paul) this fall with his coworker. I'll keep you posted with date/times.

Cheers to all & hope to see you soon.

My friend Val came in from Chicago this weekend for a visit-- we had a blast catching up. Friday night we had dinner at the new Japanese steakhouse that recently popped up in my neighborhood--delicious! And since we ate at the hibachi grill we got to mingle with some people over dinner, which was entertaining.

Saturday Val was kind enough to tag along with me to Todd's house where he was hostin a small family reunion. I think his family had a really nice time, and there was certainly no shortage of food. Todd grilled burgers, chicken, brats, and hot dogs; everyone else brought side dishes to pass like beans and potato salad. Yum! The kids oooh'd and ahhh'd over the sand buckets I'd brought, which were full of pudding and mouse and topped with crushed Oreo cookies to look like dirt and sand.

This weekend we're heading up north to a cabin with some of Todd's family, including his mom, stepdad, brothers, and his brothers' girlfriends. Everyone's staying until Tuesday morning but unfortunately I have to leave Sunday night; work's suddenly become hectic and taking a day off isn't an option right now, especially since we just had Monday off for Labor Day.

I've started working out again-- thank goodness -- and i think this time it's going to stick. I'm hoping I get into the Twin Cities 10-mile run held the same day as the marathon this October (at least I think it's in October). But there's a random entry lottery for the 10-mile. The participant limit is 5,500 runners. Getting in would be great and would give me even more reason to stick to my workouts.

Time to sign off. I'm so thankful for air conditioning!!

Summer's on the way...along with a full calendar :{

I'm back to my normal schedule now that vacation's over. Bummer. Anyhow, lots going on...my sister has a friend, Anne, looking for someone to make her wedding cake in August. Anne's going to gather some pictures of cakes she likes, then we'll talk about some ideas for her. Exciting! I'm more about building a resume of cakes than making money at this point, so I don't plan to charge her much.

Todd and I went to the Minnesota Wild hockey game Sunday night. We had a blast even though the Wild lost. But last night we caught game 4 against Anaheim-- a feisty contest. The Wild came away with the win but only after a few nasty scraps.

I'm going to Denver in May to visit Sarah, and hopefully will see Kari and get to meet Micah! Hoping also to see Rick, Susan, and Raina, and meet Cash. See ya'll then!

On May 31 Todd and I are joining my coworker Bob and a couple others at the Riverview Theater in St. Paul...there's a showing of "Indiana Jones - The Adaptation" that night. I don't know what to expect but it sounds fun: Years ago three childhood friends spent 7 years filming their own version of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Now they're traveling around, with Spielberg's blessing, showing the film. Curious?
Speaking of shows, a couple of weeks ago I caught "Love, Janis" at the Ordway in St. Paul. One word describes it: Outstanding! Everyone left the theater raving, mostly due to the vocals of the lead actress. Blew me away! Here's the Ordway's page on the show: http://www.ordway.org/performances/0607/janis.asp
