Widgets are small stand alone modules that facilitate a certain functionality.  Currently, the most popular widgets have come in the form of a Flash based photo slide show, mp3 player or video player.  YouTube became very successful on their ability to allow individuals to embed selected YouTube videos on their website through their Flash video player widget.  Rather than creating a blog entry that said, "Check out this great video at YouTube," the individual had the ability to stream the video directly from within the content.  There was no need to link to video, you could watch it right then and there.

Our product widgets bring you the ability to combine the recommending of products, shopping and fundraising all in one widget.  If you write a blog about TV shows, you are able to recommend products at Giveness and have those products showcased within the Giveness widget embedded on your blog.  You can also select a Giveness charity that you want to receive commissions from anyone that uses the widget to make a purchase.

But beyond the recommended products, we have incorporated the ability to shop the entire Amazon and eBay product catalogs directly within the widget.  So on top of your recommendations, or the charity that you have selected to support featured products, users of the widget can search and select from millions of available products and auctions that can easily generate fundraising dollars for a good cause.

If you are an administrator for your charity, visit your administration page and create a list of RSS feeds that you have available. 

All you have to do is visit this page and add the links to your RSS feeds.

The icon above represents an available RSS feed for the content it is referring to.  Clicking on this icon will provide you with the proper url that you can embed in your other RSS readers.  IE7 and Firefox have inherent RSS feed support, so it's a good way to subscribe to a friends blog and get their Giveness updates in numerous places.

In order to create a quick load time of your page, it's recommended that you select an image that is small in size.  Background images will tile, so try to find an image that will look good repeated.

Images will be converted to a .jpg.

1. Public - Any Giveness user can view your profile.

2. Friends Only - The people that you accept as friends are the only ones that can view your profile.

3. Anonymous - No one except yourself, when you are authenticated, can see your profile.

You can adjust this setting on your Manage Profile page which is located here:

You will see 2 seperate checkboxes where you can set these values for your Profile.  Unchecking all boxes will make your profile public.

You can upload a small image at least 50px wide by 50px in height.  If the Avatar is going to be scaled is will maintain the same aspect ratio.
